SCARY BOLD WORD OF THE DAY
It was a surprise to find ha in the Bible but it wasn’t like “ha ha” funny. It was scary and bold. As Jesus is hanging on the cross, people walked by him, mocking him, “wagging their heads, and saying, ‘Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days.” (Mark 15:29) Can you believe that?
There are two occurrences of ha: one in the Old Testament and one in the New Testament (above). In the Old Testament ha is a combination of two ancient words: he for “behold”; and, ach for “surprised”. In the New it is “oua” a primary exclamation of surprise.
