WHICH CAME FIRST WORD OF THE DAY
Do you ever see a name and wonder which came first: the name or the meaning? Today’s word is one of those words. Everyone tells us that Isaac means laughter but our Team asked “Which came first?” and used WordBloom to find the answer.
A quick look at Isaac shows three definitions. First we read the definitions; two definitions specifically relate to laughter and one means “Isaac son of Abraham.” Next, we clicked on each definition and looked at the verses. One ancient word occurs mainly in the first five books and in the history books of the Bible. These second ancient word shows up in Psalms and then in the Prophecy Books of the Old Testament. The third word, the word specifically and only used to mean “son of Abraham” occurs in New Testament verses. We also noticed that the first two words were derived from root words specifically related to a type of laughter.
So what did WordBloom show us in just a few clicks? The meaning “laughter” came before the words applied as a name to the “son of Abraham” and long before the only word that is specifically the proper name Isaac.
