scapegoat

TAKE THE BLAME WORD OF THE DAY

You may have been called the scapegoat if you have ever taken the blame for the group,. However, you weren’t really the scapegoat unless you were innocent.

Today’s word, like so many phrases, finds its roots in the Bible in an Old Testament Hebrew ritual. When seeking forgiveness for sin, the blood of a sin offering was poured upon a goat and the goat was sent out to the wilderness. This innocent goat was called the scapegoat and bore the sins of the people far away from them. It was a word picture of forgiveness. It was also a foreshadowing of what Christ would do on the cross when he, innocent, bore the sins of mankind so we could be forgiven.
