Jews

FIRST WORD OF THE DAY

The Data Team recently received a request asking about the different names used for God’s people in the Old Testament. One of their questions was about the title Jews for the Hebrew or Israelite people.  A quick search for today’s word showed the first occurrence in 2 Kings.

Interestingly, it is only found in one book before Ezra (where it is heavily used).  It continues to be found throughout the Old Testament and is heavily used in Nehemiah and Esther.  The term is used a few times in the Gospels and once in Revelation but Paul and Luke (Acts) use it extensively in their writings in the New Testament.

Check it out for yourself.
